Treatment Enhancements with ALKA12™
“Muscle Tension and Pain Relief” Magnesium Treatment Enhancement
Treatment time: 5 - 15 Minutes
The Muscle Tension and Pain Relief is a great enhancement to just about any massage or body work treatment. It enables you to focus on a muscle group or a body area that your client has indicated needs extra attention. Magnesium will work quickly to help improve circulation and oxygenation of the muscles leading to quickly noticeable pain relief and tension release. This enhancement can be easily incorporated either in the beginning or at the end of a treatment. Special focus will be given to the area of neck, trapezius, and thoracic muscles where it is common for stress and tension to build up.
Indications: Sore muscles - Sore joints - Muscle tension
Contraindications: Skin rashes - Open sores - Scratches on the skin
Products used in treatment: ALKA12 Gel - 20 ml
At the end of any massage or bodywork treatment, apply 10 ml to the trapezius, cervical and thoracic muscles. Massage the product in until absorbed (about 5 minutes). Leave on for additional 10 minutes, covering your client to ensure they stay warm. After, massaged area can be wiped with prepared warm moist towels to wipe the gel clean, if desired, or gel can be left on.
Proceed in the same way if applying the magnesium in the beginning of the treatment. In this case, omit the additional 10 minutes as the patient will continue to absorb the gel as you follow with the rest of the massage treatment as usual. After applying the magnesium, continue with the planned treatment.
Home use advice: Recommend to your patients a daily application and explain that with a daily application they will be continuing on their journey towards balance and strengthening while maintaining the benefits derived from the massage treatment until the next session. Rebook for the next session. Or a series of sessions.

1. Begin with the client in the supine position.
2. Do 5 sprays of Magnesium Oil in the palm of your hand.
3. Start with the client’s neck. Apply bilateral effleurage beginning at the sternal notch and using both hands simultaneously. Continue from the sternum over the shoulder and along the traps to the occipital ridge. Repeat this motion at least three times.
4. Turn client’s head to one side and apply effleurage to the side of the neck starting at the mastoid process, continue the movement across the shoulder and around the deltoid muscle and back to the base of the neck. Do this at least three times. Repeat using petrissage and friction strokes.
5. Apply passive joint movement by rolling the head forward, supporting the head side-to-side and pushing the opposite shoulder. Stretch slowly then apply passive rotation to the neck.
6. Next, apply slight traction to the cervical spine by hooking the fingers under the occiput and pulling.
7. Finish by applying alternating pressure to the shoulder toward the foot of the table and
rocking gently to stretch the shoulders.
8. Turn the client to the prone position (face down).
9. Start with a light touch at the base of the neck with one hand and place other hand at the base of the spine.
10. Apply chosen massage oil to the client’s back using effleurage strokes, starting at the head and going to the sacrum stroking the entire back. Continue massaging the back using petrissage and compression strokes.
11. Petrissage the trapezius, then the entire side of the back that is opposite to you. Repeat
this at least three times. Move to the other side of the table and repeat on the opposite side at least three times.
12. Apply another 5 sprays of Magnesium Oil in the palm of your hand.
13. Use deep gliding stripping movements with braced thumbs on the back. You can also use the elbow and forearm to do deep gliding when working on the back.
14. Move to the shoulders and perform direct pressure and friction to the trapezius and rhomboid areas.
15. Perform trigger point work in the rotator cuff areas as needed at this time.
16. Then work the cervical muscles face down using effleurage and petrissage strokes.
17. Next focus on the sub-occipital ridge using circular friction back and forward on the ridge and above and below the ridge.
18. Apply on to the trapezius, cervical and thoracic muscles of the T-Zone, massage in until absorbed.
19. Cover your client to keep them warm.
20. Move to the head and massage the scalp with friction strokes. (10 mins)
21. Gently wipe any residual oil from the area with prepared moist towels.
Special Notes: Your patient may differ in how their skin absorbs and reacts to magnesium. Magnesium absorbs quickly and can cause tingling effect that some people like and some may find uncomfortable. It is important to always communicate with your client to understand if there is any discomfort. Diluting magnesium ½ or ⅔ with water before application will lessen the tingling effect. Treatment can be extended to a full therapeutic massage if a hand and foot, face and leg massage is added. By using ALKA12 in your treatment, you may suggest your client to take one bottle home and follow its own therapy to recover faster.
This massage protocol is meant to serve as a guide only. The actual timing and techniques will vary with your patient needs.
Thank you for your support and hope this helps.
